Busting the 3 Most Common Farming Myths (That Might Be Holding You Back)
Let’s set the record straight.
You’ve heard them.
You may have believed them.
You might even have passed them on unknowingly.
I’m talking about real estate farming myths — and they’re everywhere in our industry.
So before we dive into the top three myths I see holding agents back, let’s first explore where these false beliefs come from.
Where Farming Myths Come From (and Why They Spread)
Most myths are rooted in one (or more) of the following:
🟠 Fear – Fear of failure. Fear of wasting money. Fear of judgment.
🟠 Misinformation – Agents repeating advice they don’t fully understand.
🟠 Lack of Training – Without real education, agents fill in the blanks themselves.
🟠 Lack of Experience – People teaching farming who’ve never actually done it.
🟠 Outdated Practices – What worked 20 years ago isn’t what works today.
Now that you know what causes these myths, let’s bust the three most common ones that might be limiting your growth — or scaring you off farming entirely.

Myth #1: “I Should Promote the Heck Out of Myself”
Truth: Self-promotion has its place — but it’s not the foundation of a successful farm.
Most agents flood their marketing with their face, their name, their stats, and their awards. Why? Because everyone else does. But that’s the problem — you’re blending in, not standing out.
The real key to success in farming?
👉 C.P.R. — Community. Positioning. Relationships.
Focus on giving value to the community and being known for something beyond your photo on a postcard. Agents who do this consistently build trust, relationships, and long-term business.
If you missed it, check out my blog post all about the C.P.R. method — it’ll shift your entire perspective.
Myth #2: “Farming Is All About Postcards and Door Knocking”
Truth: Those are just tools — not the strategy.
Sure, postcards and door knocking can work. But if that’s your only play, you’re limiting your reach and relying on old-school tactics that may not align with your strengths — or your market.
The strongest farms today use a balanced approach rooted in the S.C.O.P.E. Method:
Self-Promotion
Community
Online presence
Prospecting
Education
This strategy stacking helps agents reach more people, build brand equity, and create resilience in their business. Being a one-trick pony will only take you so far.
Myth #3: “Farming Doesn’t Work in My Area”
Truth: Farming works in any area — if you adapt.
This myth gets repeated way too often, and I call B.S. on it every time.
Farming may look different in your market.
It might take longer.
You might need different tactics.
But here’s the thing:
👉 With the right mindset and the right plan, farming works — period.
If your strategies aren’t working, it’s not the area — it’s the approach. And with the right training, tools, and systems, you can fix that.
Final Thoughts: Busted!
These farming myths keep too many agents stuck, small, and skeptical.
But now you know better — and you can do better.
✅ Don’t let fear, bad advice, or outdated thinking keep you from building something amazing in your farm.
