Whether you are brand new to the business or have been around the block, you have probably heard about geographic farming before. If you’ve never done it before, have you stopped to think about what it really is? Like many agents, the most common response I hear is that its about postcards and door knocking an area.

The reality is, that can be PART of your farming plan, but it’s not the fundamental base for what farming is about. At least not anymore.

So what is my definition? I’m glad you asked… My long-winded answer goes something like this:

“Strategically focusing your expertise, marketing, and prospecting efforts in one specific geographic area to build a sustainable business and long-term relationships.”

To put it in a much more simplified answer… Building a solid real estate business by becoming the local expert!

There are so many ways you can achieve this. Whether its through “old-school” techniques like post cards and door knocking, or new school strategies like online retargeting ads, PPC campaigns, geo fencing and everything in between. The key to modern farming is becoming the go-to agent in your area and the great thing is there are so many ways you can achieve this.
